Rural Doctors Foundation is a national rural health charity focused on supporting Australia’s rural communities and the health workforce that cares for them.

We believe access to life-saving health and wellbeing services should always be available: in times of crisis and hardship and importantly, no matter how remote the location.

Of Australia’s population, 28% live rurally. These rural communities are responsible for 90% of the food on Australian tables and contribute approximately 67% of Australia’s exports, yet they receive only 1.1% of the health funding. Our rural communities give so much to our nation, yet they face dramatic health inequities.

With distance, fewer services and resources, providing the best possible healthcare
to those living remotely often comes at a higher cost and sadly, is often not easily accessible.

Without healthy doctors and nurses, we can’t have healthy rural communities.

For us, it’s about working with rural communities, on the ground, to deliver the right support, in the right way. We do this by:

Supporting the delivery of a GP service for rural health workers in their community
Delivering emergency relief to rural GPs and communities in times of crisis
Providing medical equipment, health education and programs to rural communities
Conducting primary research to better understand health challenges for those living remotely.

Our purpose is to deliver better health outcomes for the seven million Australians living rurally.
