Effective Altruism Australia Community Building
$ 5.00

Our community team is focused on building and nurturing a national community of people who are thinking carefully about the world’s biggest problems and taking impactful action to solve them. We think building effective altruism is a promising way to have a big impact on the world.

Our theory of change:
Broadly speaking, all of our projects aim to support at least one of the following goals:
- Increase the number of people who are connecting and engaging with effective altruists' ideas and communities.
- Nurture a thriving community, where individuals feel supported, motivated, informed, and equipped to do good in the world. We believe that a thriving community empowers the individuals within it to do good.
- Support people in having an outsized impact via their career (e.g. helping people with their career trajectory, job hunting, professional development, etc.) as well as the good we do now as a community (e.g. volunteering, political advocacy, social capital, etc.).

Our main projects:
-
Support, mentor, and run events for organisers of Australia’s 18 local, university and cause-area specific groups.
- Play an increasing role in organising the annual EAGx Australia conference, bringing together hundreds of members of the community together for 3 days. You can read more about the impact and cost-effectiveness of EAGx events below.
'Offering advising/coaching calls to members of the community, connecting newer members to the community, and providing career and coaching support.
Keeping effective altruists around Australia up-to-date with our online infrastructure, including maintaining the website, producing our monthly newsletters to our 6,000+ subscribers, and hosting our 130+ people slack community.
Running a range of other events for the community, whether that be the monthly meetups in Sydney and professionals meetups in Melbourne, to an annual retreat after the conference
.'

Our work is currently largely funded by grants from the Centre for Effective Altruism, via the Community Building Grants Program, and the EAGx program. If you think it’s important to have a bigger and better EA community, supporting our work allows us to grow what we do.
